It was that woman again, the one who is too pretty for not being a Kinfolk. She was delivering food again; she always seemed too friendly. There had to be something wrong; no one is nice, not in this world filled with darkness. Every few days sometimes it was a week, sometimes it was only two days, she came by the shelter and gave them fresh vegetables. It was always more in the late Summer and through the Fall; but she would bring them by in the winter too. Something had to be going on. No one in the Pack thought she was on the up and up. Bone Gnawers are a suspicious bunch by nature, but they could not figure out her angle. The food seemed clean of all Taint, and was always only a few days old, too fresh to be natural, even with a greenhouse. After seeing her, this time, Aeacus[i], the Pack’s Alpha, said they had to do something. She had been going like this for more than a year, and there had to be something she wanted; or some angle she was spinning. It was their job, to find
